Meyler Campbell is delighted to announce that its Founder, Anne Scoular, has been appointed a Visiting Scholar at Saïd Business School, University of Oxford (Oxford Saïd), for an initial term of one year commencing 1 January 2018.
Anne’s role will primarily be to develop collaborative research projects focusing on leadership development and coaching, and to continue to connect people and ideas from both the Oxford Saïd and Meyler Campbell communities.
The appointment of Catherine Devitt as CEO of Meyler Campbell in late 2015 enabled Anne to take a long-awaited sabbatical for much of 2016. Following her return in October 2016, Anne’s fulltime role is now one of thought leadership: encouraging world-class research and practice, and bringing it to wider attention, with the overall aim of raising awareness and standards in leadership coaching, and measuring its impact. Anne’s Visiting Scholar appointment to some extent formalises her existing relationship with Oxford Saïd - she has already introduced several Graduates to contacts at Saïd, and, conversely linked members of the Oxford Saïd teaching and coaching community to contacts in Meyler Campbell that might be valuable to them. More detail on the specific research projects under way and being planned will be announced in due course.
Oxford Saïd’s mission is to be a “world-class business school embedded in a world-class university working on world-scale challenges”. To deliver transformational change for leaders and their organisations, the School has long-recognised the core role of executive coaching which it embeds into its leadership programmes. It is used as a key tool for leaders to reflect on their own learning and to enable the transfer of knowledge back to their organisations. The School also pioneered the creation of a ‘coaching community’ under the guidance and supervision of Professor Sue Dopson.
Anne is greatly honoured by this appointment, and looks forward to continuing to build the collaboration and flow between the two communities of Meyler Campbell, and one of the world’s great business schools. Hugely innovative work on leadership coaching is being done by both groups and, knowing a little more about each other through the links Anne will foster, can only be a good thing given the enormous challenges in our worlds today.
