Dick Tyler

Dick is an executive coach and business consultant to professional service organisations and their leaders. He is the former Senior Partner and Managing Partner of CMS Cameron McKenna LLP and Executive Partner of its European business.

Prior to his leadership roles, he had a successful transactional practice as a mergers and acquisitions lawyer. In his leadership roles, he had significant exposure to the challenges in a people-based business and to the different phases of the economic cycle. The heart of his approach to leadership was to bring out the best in people in order to deliver business results.

His involvement in coaching began when he was based in Frankfurt as leader of CMS across Europe. In his role there, the key skills needed were persuasion and an ability to build consensus. He undertook Mastered in order to become better at his job and to codify his previous management experience - and found coaching as an approach to leadership both hugely stimulating and highly effective. Then, in January 2014, he made the move out of full-time work with CMS and into a full-time consulting career.

For Dick, coaching is about allowing individuals to set their agendas and to own the outcomes; and he takes a more rounded view of their lives both within and beyond work in order to engage with them as fully as possible. His aim is to help people access their best thinking and more of their capabilities in order to achieve their objectives - giving people a reflective space to consider and resolve challenges that they are facing and to leave with a plan of action around each of their goals.
