Johanna Konta talks about working with MC Faculty member Juan Coto to prepare for Wimbledon in this week's Sunday Times.
Faculty member Juan Coto has been in the headlines repeatedly this year for his success with tennis star Johanna Konta, and this week he got a mention in the Sunday Times as she talked about training for Wimbledon.
Johanna says:
“I train with the intention of being able to last on court for however long I need to – physically and mentally. Both kinds of training are about continuously pushing the boundaries and stretching your comfort zone.
It’s no secret that I’ve done a great deal of work with my mental coach, Juan Coto. I prefer that term to psychologist. It puts a light-hearted touch to it. He is keen that I accept myself. He says: “Be kind to yourself!”
The mind is like a muscle. If I’ve taken time off and then gone back to work in the gym, my muscles will be sore. It’s the same with the mind. If you’ve done that work in training, you know you will feel the benefit in a match situation.”
Despite her early exit from Wimbledon Johanna continues to climb in the world rankings, and we want to wish her luck as she goes forward!
