As Mental Health Awareness Week is nearing to a close, let us keep in mind that the anxious feelings our friends, colleagues, family, and acquaintances experience will continue.
The resources we have shared this week have only touched the surface of the useful content that has been created for those who suffer anxiety and those who will be working with people who are anxious.
As coaches and leaders let us keep the conversation going, acknowledge how we can help, offer kindness to those around us, and provide support where possible.
We have provided a round-up of the resources we have shared this week below - please do share your own useful resources with the Meyler Campbell community here.
What is Anxiety?
What is Anxiety? Mind defines Anxiety as "a natural human response when we feel that we are under threat. It can be experienced through our thoughts, feelings and physical sensations."
The first resource we want to share is directly from Mental Health Foundation. They have generously put together a helpful resource page on their website full of techniques and tips on how we can cope with our feelings of anxiety and manage them accordingly which you can download here.
Another resource is a popular TEDtalk from Olivia Remes. In her talk “How to cope with anxiety” Olivia Remes of the University of Cambridge shares her vision on anxiety and unravels ways to treat and manage this health disorder. You can watch her full TEDtalk here.
Do you know the truth about anxiety? In this Guardian article Oliver Burkeman goes into more detail about the biological responses that occur when we feel anxious and explains why we wouldn't be able to cope without it. Read the full article here.

In a recent Meyler Campbell Masterclass, Professor Sarah Corrie looked at when and how coaching can enhance mental wellbeing and considers how, as coaches, we might play a role in addressing one of the greatest challenges of our time. Mental wellbeing is central to our ability to thrive – professionally and personally. It is also vital for high-performing organisations. The knowledge and skills that coaches have to offer both individuals and organisations have a significant contribution to make to mental wellbeing. This recording is only available for our current students and alumni, and can be accessed to watch here. And for our non-members, here is an article from Positive Psychology by Gabriella Lancia that outlines six techniques that coaches can use to help their clients. Read the full article here. |
