Leader As Coach in Lagos

Meyler Campbell were delighted to be invited to deliver a bespoke version of our Leader as Coach (Unleashed) programme for the Africa Finance Corporation. This is an organisation with an ambitious purpose: to facilitate instrumental infrastructure for transformative impact across Africa. The organisation works to accelerate impact and turn investments into prosperity by constructing a leading-class portfolio of high-yield assets, often taking an early equity financier role. Founded less than 20 years ago, to date, the AFC has invested US$12.7 billion in 36 countries across Africa in key sectors including power, transport, heavy Industries, telecommunications and natural resources. The AFC’s headquarters are in Lagos, Nigeria, so Guy Ashton and Liz Gooster flew out to facilitate three full-day programmes with three separate groups of senior leaders.

During this 20-minute discussion, they spoke about what prompted Tomas to start his research into the rise of incompetent male leaders, why confidence often masquerades as competence, his thoughts on the role of coaching in tackling this phenonmenom, what coaches should be aware of when working with an incompetent leader as a client, and what attendees can explore for themselves before the lecture.

Meyler Campbell Graduate launches appeal to combat youth violence

If you have been horrified at mounting knife and other violence, you might be thankful for Meyler Campbell Graduate 2024 Lee Lawrence. Teachers told Lee that young children in their schools went “from 0 to 100”, i.e. when something frustrated them, they leapt straight to violence. Lee’s new programme (The Louder I Will Sing Educational Program) is getting remarkable results, giving children alternative non-violent means of expression – and also raising their pride. I have supported the appeal, and I hope our wonderful community might do the same – for more information, and to donate, click here.

(And if you love exceptional writing – and are brave – I also warmly recommend Lee’s book, The Louder I will Sing.)

Much love,
